Martí Guixé

The famous Spanish and Catalan designer Martí Guixé was born in 1964 in Barcelona. His work moves between anthropology, humor, gastronomy, typography, the human and the exact sciences.

Martí Guixé lives in Barcelona and Berlin. He graduated in interior design from Elisava in Barcelona in 1985 and enrolled in an industrial design study program in Scuola Politecnica di Design di Milano in 1986.

For him, design should be firmly rooted in contemporary experience and not linger in past structures of functionality. What marks his work is a frequent use of disposable or cheap materials. Such sensitivity towards materials that are quick, readily available and oriented towards mass consumption led him to become an important innovator in food design. In 2001, as a statement against the limited scope of the traditional designer Guixé started an ex-designer movement, defining himself by the same name. Some of his clients are Alessi, Camper, Danese, Desigual, Droog Design, Magis, Rome Film Festival, Vitra…

He has been included in exhibitions at MoMA (New York), MuDAC (Lausanne), MACBA (Barcelona) and Centre Pompidou (Paris). He received the Ciutat de Barcelona Prize in 1999 and the National Design Prize of the Generalitat de Catalunya in 2007.
