The New Ethiopia Newspaper

BNW was commissioned to create the new visual identity for a brand new Ethiopian newspaper, with the ambition to become a news leader on the market of international English news coverage. The job got special importance as the Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed Ali has been awarded this year’s Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea.

BNW used a contemporary typography, orange and grey colour and black and white photography in order to develop symbolic, moving, emotional, innovative, digitally ready and communicative design. The entire branding job was focused on creating a design capable of being reproduced within more than limited technical possibilities in local Ethiopian printing facilities, and an easy transformation of the print layout into a future on-line proposition.
